Started in 1976, Habitat for Humanity built its 200,000th home in 2005.

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

MISSION STATEMENT

Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit ecumenical housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in Fort Bend County by building simple quality housing with the help of homeowner (partner) families.

VISION

As employees and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, we commit to the task of providing simple, decent and affordable housing to all program eligible Fort Bend County families.  Living into this vision means we are:

Inspirational: We offer a program where members of the community can give back to the community by providing simple affordable housing to families who otherwise would not have the opportunity to obtain the American dream of home ownership.

Educational:  We provide ongoing programs to educate our homeowners in the responsibilities of home ownership and good citizenship.

Youthful:  Participation by the area high schools is vibrant and growing and where community pride is developed and supported and the youth are prepared for community service.

Growing and Forming:  By building villages, we form civic minded neighborhoods that support one another and give back to the community.

Reaching Out to Serve:  Hard working people who are in need of decent affordable housing find hope for a brighter future through the outreach and hard work provided by the Fort Bend Habitat volunteers.  As a result, those who serve and are served are transformed.

CORE VALUES

Grounded in our desire to eliminate substandard housing in Fort Bend County, Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity holds these values:

Excellence:  Setting a standard for affordable quality housing driven by high expectations and standards.

Meeting Human Needs:  Bringing the promise of adequate affordable housing to those hard working dedicated families who without Habitat may not be able to share the American dream of home ownership.

Education and Leadership:  Forming partnerships of volunteers, homeowners and community institutions to be effective agents of transformation of new and existing homeowners into effective and responsible homeowners contributing to the community.

Responsive Stewardship:  Growing and using wisely our time, talent and treasure to support the mission of Habitat for Humanity as well as the betterment of our community.

We are pledged to the letter and spirit of U.S. policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the nation. We encourage and support an affirmative advertising and marketing program in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, or sources of income.
